ESPN reports that Manchester United have agreed upon a fee of £13.1 million with Hoffeinheim for the transfer of Roberto Firmino.

The 23 year old’s form last season for the German club caught the eye of several English clubs with Arsenal and Liverpool also expressing interest in the player. His contribution of 7 goals and 10 assists proved to be pivotal in Hoffeinheim exceeding expectations in the Bundesliga with a top 7 position.

Having recently hit the headlines for his winner against Honduras, Firmino is keen to secure his future before the Copa America begins and personal terms with Manchester United should be agreed upon shortly.

The Brazilian primarily plays as a central attacking midfielder. However, his versatility allows him to be comfortable on the left side of the field as well. He likes dribbling and running at the opposition. His intelligence on the field is evident from how he occupies pockets of space all over the field and this makes him harder to mark. His creativity should prove beneficial to United especially considering how often they have appeared short on ideas in the final third. In addition, Firmino also tracks back and performs his defensive duties with due diligence, qualities that Van Gaal shall put to good use in his new-look Manchester United.

It is uncertain in what position Van Gaal shall deploy the attacking midfielder. His versatility could possibly be an indication of him functioning as a utility man. Irrespective of where the Dutchman chooses to play his newest charge, Firmino is an intelligent purchase for £13.1 million and will add plenty of depth to the United squad.
