Manchester United are releasing 5 players this summer after the club submitted its retained list to the Premier League. Once highly rated by then United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, Tom Cleverley would be joining Everton after his contract ends with United this summer. Goalkeeper Ben Amos would also be leaving after seven years at the Old Trafford club. The player only made seven appearances for the Reds.

Under 21 captain Tom Thorpe will also be leaving. Thorpe lifted numerous trophies at youth level. Thorpe, who was highly rated, and was judged better than fellow defenders Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett failed to impress Louis van Gaal. Also, fellow defenders Callum Evans and Ryan McConnell, who were also part of the Under-21 squad, would be released to make their careers elsewhere.

Also, futures of players like Rafael, Nani, Hernandez is unclear but is believed that they have been told to find new clubs and Van Gaal does not see them as part of the future of the club. David de Gea is believed to have said “goodbyes” to his teammates and staff at Manchester United and will move to Madrid this summer. Louis van Gaal may be on yet another spending spree and may change his squad again with 5 players being released and many others to be sold.
