Manchester United have completed the signing of Argentinian goalkeeper Sergio Romero, suggest sources.

United targeted Romero after they were ready to sell  Victor Valdes who had rifts with Louis van Gaal after refusing to play for the U-21s.

Romero is a free agent after the Italian side Sampdoria released him after the expiration of his contract.

Romero has certainly proved himself at the international stages, first at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and then earlier this year at Copa America. However, he has been a bench warmer at the club level, first at Monaco and then at Sampdoria.

United have agreed to sign the Argentina No. 1 on a three-year deal worth €1.8 million a season. Louis van Gaal certainly knows the quality that the player possesses, having won the Dutch league in 2009 with Romero at AZ Alkmaar.
