During the qualifying session at the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America, Wisconsin, Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver, Marcus Ericsson got heavily trolled on social media. Car number 7, driven by Ericsson had been running when he went wide. In the process, he wiped out a couple of advertisement bollards, before continuing on.

For the uninitiated, the tweet was a reference to Haas driver, Romain Grosjean’s team radio in 2018. Grosjean had crashed out behind the safety car in Azerbaijan, and he blamed a puzzled Marcus Ericsson.

Since then, that moment has been the butt of so many jokes at Grosjean’s and Ericsson’s expense. Afterwards, the IndyCar Twitter handle replied to their tweet with an ‘apology’.

At the end of the qualifying session, Colton Herta became the youngest pole winner in IndyCar history. In the Firestone Fast Six, the last of three elimination rounds, Herta banged in a lap of 1 minute, 42.9920 seconds.

The 19-year old is more than a year younger than the previous record-holder, Graham Rahal, who was 20 years old. Rahal clinched pole position for the St. Petersburg race back in 2008. Herta also broke another record earlier this year when he became the youngest race winner. At the time, he was 18-years old when he won the INDYCAR Classic at the Circuit of The Americas.

Another former F1 driver, Alexander Rossi lines up alongside Herta in the front row for Sunday’s race.

Team Penske duo Will Power and Josef Newgarden locked out the second row. They will be followed by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing pair, Graham Rahal and Takuma Sato.

The three rounds of qualifying ran incident-free, though reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon suffered a mechanical issue on his final lap in the first round. The No, 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda advanced to the second round but didn’t turn a lap and will start 12th on Sunday.
