Maria Sharapova is considered one of the greats of the game. Along with the flawless game that she brings to the court, the Russian added a sense of glamour as well. She rose to fame when she beat Serena Williams, to lift her first-ever Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.

In 2020, Maria Sharapova retired from the sport after losing in the first round of the Australian Open. Later that year in December, she announced her engagement to a British businessman, Alexander Gilkes.

Post-retirement, the former World No. 1 player is concentrating on her business venture, Sugarpova. It specializes in making various types of candy.

Maria Sharapova: “Always made sure I took time to explore other passions”

Recently, the former Grand Slam champion spoke about the importance of maintaining ‘a balance’ in life. She explains, “As I’ve mentioned before, to me, life is about balance, and it’s something I’ve tried to prioritize more than anything.

“While tennis often consumed nearly every minute of every day, I always made sure I took the time to explore other passions that excited me in order to give myself a mental break, but also to maintain that sense of balance outside of my sport.”

Besides tennis, Sharapova has a liking for other pleasures such as art, design, and travel. By exposing herself to these passions the multi-Grand Slam winner managed to remain true to herself.

Maria further added, “I have so many other passions in life, whether that’s travel, art, design, or business. Giving myself time to explore these interests has helped me remain authentic to who I am, but also to be, put simply, just happy.”
