The Russian tennis ace,  Maria Sharapova began her Wimbledon Championships 2019 on Court two of The All England Club. The 2004 champion, Sharapova retired from her opener at 6-4, 6-7(4), 0-5 against the Frenchwoman, Pauline Parmentier at Wimbledon. With this, Maria Sharapova remains win-less on the courts of SW19 since the year 2015.

Maria Sharapova could manage to take the first set and maintain a 5-3 lead in the second one. However, her last year’s performance against Vitalia Diatchenko once again came into play as she lost the match after leading by a set and 5-2.

She committed eight doubles faults in the match and couldn’t play her natural game in the deciding set. In between, Maria Sharapova called her trainer for her left wrist, which was causing a hindrance during her play. And she couldn’t come up with decent backhand shots.

Maria Sharapova resumed her tennis season on the grass-courts Mallorca last month, after a four-month hiatus from tennis. Former World Number one has been struggling with her shoulder issues and she has been working constantly to fix it.

Besides Sharapova’s halt, the former Wimbledon champion, Garbine Muguruza is out from Wimbledon Championships 2019. She was defeated by World Number 121, Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 6-4. With this loss, the World Number one tennis player, Ash Barty won’t face seeded tennis players in her first week at Wimbledon.

Former Wimbledon finalist, Eugenie Bouchard, bounced back from 1-4 trail in the deciding set also she was two points away from her second round spot at 6-5 (30-15). However, she landed up losing to Tamara Zidansek 6-3, 5-7, 8-6.

Another Wimbledon finalist, Tomas Berdych was defeated by the Eastbourne champion, Taylor Fritz. The American took him out 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round of Wimbledon 2019.

The former Wimbledon champions, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova, and Angelique Kerber are through to their round of 64 encounters in London.
