Maria Sharapova overcame Caroline Wozniacki in a much anticipated third round match up at the Australian Open 2019. The Russian was unforgiving from the baseline and, displayed an aggressive brand of tennis, that Maria Sharapova has long been known for.

Maria Sharapova will face off against Ashleigh Barty, who is seeded fifteenth at the Australian Open in the women’s singles draw. The job will be even tougher as Ashleigh Barty will have the support of the vocal home fans, as she squares off against the Russian.

Maria Sharapova was asked if she thought that her draw was difficult, during her press conference after her victory against Wozniacki. “What is an easier draw, you know there’s really no such thing I know”, said Maria Sharapova.

Shrapova feels happy with herself after the victory and is looking well relaxed ahead of her next one. “I felt that even in the longer rallies, I did a great job of winning those and put a lot of pressure on her,” said the former champion. “Those are the rallies that many years ago she used to win. I thought I did a great job of getting a high percentage of wins in those.”

Maria Sharapova has looked in flawless form in her first couple of rounds and today’s victory against the defending champion, will help Sharapova regain the lost confidence within her.
