The featherweight king of UFC now has a new challenger for his throne. Max Holloway has been dominating the featherweight division for a meaningful period. However, it seems now he is going to face his one of the most difficult challenges yet.

Max Holloway vs Alexander Volkanovski has been made official for UFC 245. Amanda Nunes will be defending her bantamweight title in the same card as well.

Alexander Volkanovski is the number one contender for the featherweight title and he would have fought Holloway earlier this year. However, due to injuries this fight could not happen until now.

It’s safe to say that Volkanovski is the most powerful striker in the featherweight division at the moment. Alexander Volkanovski is one  a17 fight win streak and his last two victories were against Chad Mendes and one of the greatest of all time, Jose Aldo. With a resume like that it was about time Volkanovski gets his much deserved title shot.

Max Holloway has been unbeaten in the featherweight for a very long time. He did lose to Dustin Poirier earlier this year when he tried to become a two division champion. However, Poirier won that fight via a split decision and he has a huge power advantage over Max Holloway who is a featherweight ideally. Max Holloway bounced back from that loss and successfully defended his title against former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar.

Well it seems that we might see three title fights in UFC 245 with no official information on the main-event. However it’s safe to say that the UFC 245 card just got blessed since Max Holloway will defend his throne against Alexander Volkanovski.
