John McEnroe was renowned for his trash talking skills on the court in his playing days. However, the hot head tennis legend, was in the news again for his trash talking. John McEnroe was in the news earlier for commenting that he could beat either of the Williams sisters in a match. This comment came after McEnroe said that Williams would be ranked outside the top 700 if she played in the men’s division.

“It was after Serena and Venus had started talking about they could beat a lot of guys,” said McEnroe. “So, over time, somehow, I guess because I’m a commentator — I’m not exactly sure why I’m the fall guy for this, I think Serena and Venus are great, but you’re not gonna sit there and hear me say I can’t, you know, beat them.”

McEnroe said he received an offer from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to play against Serena Williams in an exhibition match. This would be similar to the battle of sexes match which took place between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King back in 1973. “I was calling a match and suddenly I get this envelope, and it’s from Donald Trump — who is promoter galore,” McEnroe told during an interview for a sports talk show. “It’s never been something where I was like, I want to go play a woman in a match,” said McEnroe.

McEnroe had said, that if Serena ever played in the men’s division she would be ranked over 700 in the singles rankings. “Over the course of time, literally my kids, my daughters will say: ‘Dad I don’t know if you can beat Serena,'” he said. “I’m like, ‘God I can’t even get my kids on my side.'”

For those who do not know, both Serena and Venus Williams, had challenged that they could beat any male player who was ranked outside the top 200 in the singles rankings. This challenge was accepted in 1998 by Karsten Braasch, who was then ranked 203, who defeated them without breaking a sweat.
