Massa had high praise for his one-time rival
Newly retired F1 driver Felipe Massa believes that Mercedes will back Lewis Hamilton in the 2018 Formula 1 championship fight. Hamilton sealed his fourth world championship by fending off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel with Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas 58 points adrift. Mercedes have a policy of letting their drivers race freely. However, Massa is under the impression that the German team will focus on the Briton’s 2018 title bid.

Massa said, “[For 2018] the team is completely on his side 100%. So he has no issue with his team-mate like he had maybe before [with Nico Rosberg]. So many things are really on his side and he can just make himself better and better all the time.”

Back in 2017, Hamilton won nine grand prix, including five races following the summer break. As a result, he wrapped up the title with two races to spare. He is now an elite member of the four title club. This prestigious group features only Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio, Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost.
Massa was impressed with Hamilton’s ability to handle Mercedes’ early gremlins. With a consistently high level of performance he managed to achieve the quadruple. The Brazilian continued, “Hamilton did the perfect job. He had some little issues in some races at the beginning of the season. He was just not on the pace and struggling with some stuff around the car, but I think they sorted it out.
Felipe was amazed by the fact that Lewis is doing an amazing job and having fun racing. At the same time, he is just getting the best out of all his cars. Massa could not think of a more deserving driver, considering everything that he has managed to achieve. He made himself into a driver who has nothing to lose compared to any driver in history.
How will Hamilton’s 2018 title bid turn out? Stay tuned until March to find out
