Ahead of the 2013 Formula One season, the F1 and motor racing fraternity was rocked by the news of Michael Schumacher suffering injuries in a skiing accident. Since then he has been slowly and steadily recovering from the aftermath of the incident.

Of course, once the news of Schumacher’s accident spread like wildfire, the well-wishes flooded in and the media were in a frenzy to find out updates on his recovery. However the German legend’s health remained, and still remains a closely guarded secret. However, the family does release occasional updates on Michael’s health, which fortunately contains good news.

For the uninitiated, the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver was skiing in the French Alps with his then 14-year old son, Mick. As it turned out, he crossed an unsecured off-piste area, fell and his head struck a rock, resulting in a serious head injury despite wearing a ski helmet. Physicians later revealed that the presence of the helmet prevented the injury from being fatal.

Since then, following two surgeries, the 7-time world champion was placed in a medically induced coma owing to traumatic brain injury. From that point on, updates from the Schumacher family have been very few and far between, but knowing that Michael Schumacher prefers to maintain his privacy, a large part of the media have respectfully abstained from digging too much.

What’s the latest news on Michael Schumacher?

Earlier in December, Michael’s wife Corinna issued a strange message ahead of the launch of the ‘KeepFightingMichael’ social media page. She said, “Big things start with small steps. Many small particles can form a huge mosaic. Together you are stronger, and that is exactly how combined forces of the KeepFighting movement make it easier to encourage others.”

Keep Fighting is a German non-profit initiative inspired by Michael Schumacher to continue contributing to charity. As mentioned before, it also has a social media page titled ‘KeepFightingMichael’, which was created by his fan club in Kerpen. The page is set to go live on the same day of his accident six years ago.

At the same time, the Schumacher family’s foundation is raising money to support victims with injuries similar to those suffered by Michael Schumacher. In addition to that, they will also raise money for research into brain and spinal cord injuries.
