Remember the time when Michael Vick stepped into the shoes of Norfolk State’s head coach, and his wife, Kijafa, a proud Hampton alum, refused to embrace the Spartans’ colors. “Can you perhaps start using these 💛💚 hearts?”, Michael Vick’s younger brother, Marcus Vick, joked. Kijafa’s reply, a blunt, “Never 👎I will always represent Hampton University @_hamptonu.” Stirring the pot, she has again taken a jab at the Norfolk State head coach for losing her people to the Spartans’ color

This time? Kijafa has taken it straight to her heart when one Hampton alum featured himself in Norfolk State’s jersey, and that’s what led to the meltdown. Raashaun Casey, an eminent DJ, radio personality, and entrepreneur, is popularly known as the co-host of ‘The Breakfast Club. But most importantly, he is a Hampton alum. Kijafa posted a snap of Casey, donning a Spartan jersey, his back to the camera, as he shows off the No. 7, with ‘Vick’ written across.

Kijafa playfully writes. “Turning HU alumni’s into NSU believers 😝 @mv5 I  see you going after my peoples @djenvy,” Kijafa, a proud Hampton University alumna, never misses an opportunity to rep her blue-and-white Pirates. For her, switching to Spartan green and gold — even in emojis or watching another fellow Hampton feels like betraying the very program that is stitched into her identity.

To which Michael Vick responds cheekily, “@djenvy 🔥💪🏾,” reposting her story. The playful banter between the duo on their respective alma mater is a wholesome one indeed. Teasing each other while respecting both programs, as it seems, makes their bond stronger, rather than ripping at it, dividing the household.

That being said, Michael Vick’s Norfolk State might not be operating at its best capacities presently. Coming back to his roots in Norfolk, the legendary NFL quarterback, who made explosive 13 seasons across the Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles, his first stint with the Spartnas couldn’t live up the hype.

“Don’t take losses well,” Michael Vick on Spartans’ upsetting performance

The William Dick Price Stadium witnessed 19,000 fans pooling over to watch the Spartans go against the  Towson Tigers. But the optimism quickly dimmed to despair, as the concluding minutes of the fourth quarter saw a 27-7 setback for Michael Vick’s Norfolk. The offense sputtered against Darian Dulin’s defensive scheme, and it was a disappointing sight for the Norfolk faithful.

Given Michael Vick’s legend as a quarterback, college football and the fans had more expectations for an explosive season and Vick knows it more than anyone else. “don’t take losses well, even though I understand it’s a part of the game,”  he admitted. The Tigers dominated the turf since the first snap. The only time the Spartans reached the end zone was during the first drive of the fourth quarter, when RB Jaylen Laudermilk sprinted for an eight-yard run and ended the drought with the first touchdown of the season.

“Just got into a rhythm on offense and just setting ourselves back in every way,” he said, his frustration clear. “Flags all over the field every time we get a good play… We gotta get some consistency going.”

Although Norfolk’s offense was never the dominant unit on the turf, Michael Vick might have two offensive weapons emerging on the horizon. DreSean Kendrick was able to catch 11 passes for 125 yards, while Kam’Ryn Thomas trailed behind with seven catches for 105 yards.
