Middlesbrough F.C. have achieved promotion to the  Barclays Premier League next season after their 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Stuani opened the scoring for Middlesbrough in the first half before Stephens drew Brighton level with a fine header. Middlesbrough managed to hold firm and the delirium amongst the fans was visible after the final whistle as they stormed onto the pitch. Here are the highlights of the match

Middlesbrough were relegated from the top flight in 2009 and their promotion ends their 7 year long agony. They finished 2 in the Championship tied with Brighton & Hove on 89 points but achieved promotion on superior goal difference. Fresh from the pain of losing the play off to Norwich last year, Boro ensured that they won’t have to go through the same pain again as they avoided the play- off match.  Promotion to the Premier League is a financial boost for the club as the revenues generally rise up by 170 million pounds.  Meanwhile now, Brighton would have to play the play-off semi-final match against Sheffield Wednesday.
