Not even in the book called the world’s lamest jokes would you imagine the following description in reference to the phrase- “Ferrari are playing Games”- the site of a video game console branded with the logo of the Prancing Horse. Would you?

Who has the time for playing such petulant games, after all?

But one wonders, whether the Scuderia stable, one that’s failed to win a single race after 3 races are doing something just that: fooling around? So are Ferrari really fooling around, particularly where it comes to team orders?

In light of the above, Finnish racing legend Mika Hakkinen, one of the most revered figures in Formula 1, a man responsible for collecting two world titles (1998,99) certainly feels so. Not a man who talks incredibly lot, and one who speaks his mind, Hakkinen has noted that Ferrari are sort of ‘playing games‘ in team orders in their fight with Mercedes.

And therefore, what’s not helping Ferrari, in that regard is that Mercedes, winners of each of the three Grands Prix held so far, have gotten away in the fight already. Well, opinions be kept aside and analysis sidelined, that is what it is.

The Silver Arrows, being led brilliantly by Lewis Hamilton, table-topper in the driver rankings and Valtteri Bottas, winner of the 2019 Australian Grand Prix are well ahead of Ferrari in the Constructor standings.

Thus far, with contests at Melbourne’s Albert Park, Bahrain’s Sakhir, and China’s Shanghai international circuit completed, the Toto Wolff-led team are already going steady with 130 points. In so doing, they’ve already created a 57-point gap to Ferrari, sort of languishing at second, even as the Italian team currently enjoys a 21-point advantage over Red Bull.

To that end, making a note of the 2019 proceedings, Mika Hakkinen has shared the following in reference with Ferrari, particularly with the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix in the background:

Charles Leclerc made a better start to the race than Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel and should really have been allowed to get on with it and take the fight to Bottas if he could.

“Instead he was asked to slow down and let Vettel past, which looked like a mistake.

“When you have a team as strong as Mercedes to beat there is no point playing games. “Ferrari needs to stop focussing on themselves and start concentrating on beating the competition.
