Mike Tyson may have criticized Floyd Mayweather several times in the past. But he did acknowledge TBE’s impeccable achievement in the sport and defended the undefeated star’s aura from Jermall Charlo’s criticisms, recently. WBC middleweight champion Charlo was the latest guest in Tyson’s HotBoxin’ podcast, where he shed views on several aspects.

When asked about the dynamic changes in the sport, referring to the financial aspects, Jermall Charlo pinpointed Mayweather for changing the outlook of the sport. ‘Hitman’ seemingly tagged Mayweather to have infused the business mindset amongst the modern-age boxers.

In response, Mike Tyson justified it by saying, “Yeah, that was cool too, but he [Mayweather] had to get in that ring and fight, too. He had to fight the best competitor. He wiped everybody out. And that’s why he is who he is. He beat everybody. Everybody I thought would give him a chance. He has wiped everybody out. Nobody can even match him.”

Although several boxing pundits have accused Floyd Mayweather of cherry-picking his opponents, Mike Tyson didn’t agree to it at all. He said Mayweather had fought the best and picked no one at will. This statement can be highly arguable. But Tyson very confidently delivered the claim.

Tyson added, “He [Mayweather] didn’t pick guys. He took the best. Even the guys I picked against him, he beat everybody, made everybody wrong.”

Tyson didn’t back off from labeling Floyd Mayweather the best. However, he had denounced ‘TBE’ for claiming the same in the past, when Mayweather had billed him greater than Muhammad Ali.

Despite acknowledging Mayweather’s prowess, Tyson hasn’t appeared a huge fan of him. Tyson once compared Floyd Mayweather’s 50-0 run with Julio Cesar Chavez’s and Sugar Ray Robinson’s tenure and placed ‘TBE’ below the other two.

Tyson even came close, in what would appear to throwing a punch at Floyd Mayweather at an event hosted by the WBC. Therefore, his latest statements on Floyd Mayweather were quite surprising to the fans. But it’s credible of Mike Tyson to credit a boxer where t is due.
