One of the fairy tale moments at this year’s Australian open, apart from Roger Federer’s comeback, was that of Mischa Zverev. Back from the clutches of retirement, and playing a style of tennis now considered to be outdated, Mischa Zverev is the brother of Alexander Zverev. He created a stir within the Rod Laver arena in January when he defeated Andy Murray in four sets. Just a year ago Mischa was ranked outside the top 1000, and this year he is expected to finish within the top 50. After a career marred by injuries, namely, a fractured wrist, two fractured ribs, a herniated disc in his lower back, a tear in the patella tendon of his knee, and finally a surgery on his wrist. Mischa  says his only motivation on and off the court was his younger brother Alexander, who pushed him to keep competing despite his setbacks. He decided not to give up on tennis and thus started travelling along with two of his family friends to the Futures tournaments. He started practicing on court, coaching youngsters, starting off with simple backhand slices and then slowly moving on to the forehand. He thanked his family for staying through the tougher times and supporting him, and not allowing him to throw in the towel yet.

The hard work paid of eventually, when he ousted Andy Murray in four sets. Coming to the net more than a 100 times during the match. He showed that serve and volley is not out of style yet. He is 2-0 ahead when it comes to playing against his brother.
