It’s never easy to see a beloved player leave their sport as time catches up with them. Everyone tries to find a unique way to honor the athlete that is fitting to their contribution to the sport. As the 2023 baseball season approaches its second month, Miguel Cabrera is receiving the honor of a lifetime. A stellar player since the beginning of his career, Miggy has rarely failed to win hearts. Now, the 40-year-old is in his last season in Major League Baseball.

Cabrera has been playing for the Detroit Tigers since 2008 and has become a fixture in the Midwestern state’s team. But given that he’s been playing in the big leagues since 2003, the first baseman has earned the respect of many rival teams too. One of them includes another Midwestern franchise, the Milwaukee Brewers. These two groups have something of a rivalry, but that didn’t stop the Brewers from giving Cabrera a proper send-off.

What did the Milwaukee Brewers do for the Miguel Cabrera farewell tour?

It’s a custom to honor players for their last season in baseball, especially those that seem Hall of Fame-bound – Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and David Ortiz, among others, all received the royal treatment. While every farewell tour is different, Cabrera’s seems to be especially unique. After the Houston Astros gifted him an interesting set of presents, the Baltimore Orioles gave him an actual brick. Now, the Brewers are the latest to get in line for the celebration and they did it the only way fitting of their state – with cheese.

A place known for its coagulated dairy product, Milwaukee presented Miggy with a hat made out of cheese. In addition, a $5,000 check to the Miguel Cabrera Foundation and a custom leather jacket accompanied the fancy headgear.
