In the years that the shortstop, Derek Jeter, played in the New York Yankees, his fame only rose rapidly. Both in and out of the field, people loved him, and they still do. There was a superstar, the shortstop was a fan of and once not only dreamt of dating her but marry as well.

That actress was none other than the singing sensation, Mariah Carey. The two met at a party hosted by Armani. Notably, the singer was married to producer, Tommy Mottola, at the time, but that did not stop them from having a deep connection. And eventually, they started dating despite Carey being married during that time. 

They dated for a short amount of time from 1997 to 1998. But even the short-lived relationship, taught Carey a lot of things. Her marriage with the producer was not a happy one. Therefore, dating Jeter finally gave her the boost that she needed to end that toxic relationship. After they broke up, Jeter got interviewed and got asked about the reason for their separation.

The Hall of Famer, Derek Jeter, during his interview with Vault, talked about being in a relationship (post-breakup) was tough because of how things were at that juncture. He said that he wanted to be with someone, who was willing to handle all the attention coming due to being popular. And that being with Carey was something entirely different. 

“I’d have to be with someone very understanding, someone who’s willing to deal with all the attention. But going out with Mariah, that’s taking it to a whole other level. She’s someone who’s known worldwide. I don’t see how two very famous people—and I’m nowhere close to her level—would be able to deal with that over the long haul. It’s too much,” Derek Jeter said.

Indeed, it would have been tough for both of them to handle everything. Considering how Jeter and Carey’s fame has risen till now.
