Alex Rodriguez is no doubt an MLB legend. Despite running into controversy to close out his MLB career, Rodriguez enjoys love from his fans. While he may have had his misgivings, A-Rod was doubtless one of the MLB’s most impactful players of his generation. However, while appreciated as such in his time, it seems that the star’s power may have been overestimated by the generations to come.

Speaking on a podcast recently, Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns was asked to pick out his favorite Yankees player growing up. Despite his NBA team now being in part owned by the former Yankees slugger, KAT minced no words when he was asked to name his favorite player from the Pinstripes’ lineup. Despite potentially running into an MLB legend virtually every day in the NBA, the Minnesota star paid little heed to Alex.

Who is Karl Anthony Towns’ Favorite Player?

While his basketball stats are undeniable, his baseball picks appear to be somewhat different from the grain. KAT picked out a player that few players today would mark out as their favorite. Despite a litany of legends on offer from the Bronx, KAT chose instead to go for Mark Teixeira, a first baseman who held first base on the diamond from 2009 to 2016.

Said Towns, “The person that really stuck with me, and I love this game, and I remember going home and watching him play the position I played. I always wanted to be as good as him. And he was Mark Teixeira.” However, Towns managed to have some saving grace in the interview also acknowledging other greats from the Bronx over the course of the interview.

Alex Rodriguez Makes KAT’s Top 5 Yankees

The North New Jersey native showed himself to be a true Yankees fan through his picks from the franchise all the time. Asked to pick his top 5, Towns showed little hesitation in going with the picks that everyone would have expected.

Said Towns, “I’m going with Bernie Williams, A-Rod, Reggie Jackson, and obviously Derek Jeter,” before he hesitated. Clarifying again that this was merely his own personal preference and not a marker for their skills, Towns went on to clear his top players in pinstripes. Picking Mickey Mantle as his fifth player, KAT couldn’t stay away from mentioning Yogi Berra and all the other Yankees legends.

In a distinctive turn away from the ordinary, though, the Timberwolves star chose to stay away from marking Alex Rodriguez as his favorite, instead choosing 3x All-Star Mark Teixera.

While this may lead to some awkward conversations in the Timberwolves’ locker room with the NBA 2024 season set to start soon, KAT has marked his choice quite clearly. What remains to be seen is what A-Rod thinks of this opinion.
