ESPN recently posted on their Twitter account, sharing a Michael Jordan quote praising Derek Jeter’s excellence. Jordan and Jeter are legendary players of basketball and baseball, respectively. Their towering success boosted their popularity beyond their base of supporters. Two ambassadors for their respective sports, who need no formal introduction, to begin with. 

Michael Jordan is one of the most iconic NBA players to have ever played the sport. A dominant player on the court, Jordan spent 15 years playing for the Chicago Bulls. Jordan won six championships, and six Finals MVPs, and was a 14-time All-Stars player. A top-class record that established Jordan as an all-time basketball great.

Whereas Derek Jeter spent nearly 20 magnificent years in the MLB playing for the New York Yankees. Jeter was a 14-time All-Stars player and won five World Series Championships. 

While Michael Jordan considered Derek Jeter to be a younger brother and a genuine champion, Jeter idolized Jordan. Anyone who knows either of the two personalities is aware that Jordan and Jeter always held each other in utmost high regard. Two legendary athletes with immense mutual respect. This feeling of warmth that persists dates a long way back to 1994.

Derek Jeter’s docuseries titled ‘The Captain’ premiered on ESPN and ESPN+ on July 18th. Jeter and ESPN networks are recently promoting the docuseries. Jeter has revealed the best and worst memories of his life in the docuseries. Many famous personalities with ties to Jeter have appeared on the docuseries, and so did Michael Jordan.

Expressing his respect for Derek Jeter, Michael Jordan said, “I appreciate him as a competitor. He wanted no faults in his game. To me, that’s a champion. Willing to look at himself and say, ‘How could I be better? How can I inspire other players?’ Derek always had that mentality.” 

As per a source, in an interview with YESNetwork, Derek Jeter praised Michael Jordan, saying, “We first met when I was in Arizona Fall League when he was playing baseball. MJ is like a brother to me; our relationship has grown throughout the years, and he’s like an older brother I never had. We’ve had a lot of conversations about life and about competing, both on and off the field or court.” 

Michael Jordan first met Derek Jeter, while Jordan was playing baseball in the Arizona Fall League. Jordan played minor league baseball games for the Scottsdale Scorpions and later for the Birmingham Barons. In between, Jordan also played one MLB game for the Chicago White Sox against the Chicago Cubs. Jordan attended both of Jeter’s last game at Yankee Stadium and Jeter’s Hall Of Fame induction ceremony.

Their lives post-departure from the sporting arena 

Michael Jordan and Derek Jeter have pulled down the curtains on their glorious careers. Jordan retired from the basketball court in 2003 and is now the owner of the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA as well as 23XI Racing in NASCAR. While Jeter bid farewell to the baseball diamond in 2014 and was briefly the joint owner of the Miami Marlins for over four years. Jeter now lives happily with his wife and three daughters.
