Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez dominated the baseball diamond throughout his playing time. He entered baseball as an 18-year-old bright prospect. Through his sensational performances, he became a legend in the sport. But he might not have been known as the baseball icon that he is today, if not for his mother’s guidance. 

‘A-Rod’ played MLB for the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees, respectively. Being equally adept in batting and fielding, he received critical acclaim from the initial stages. Playing for the Yankees, however, made him the celebrity athlete that the world knows him as. The 14-time All-Star Rodriguez even clinched his only World Series trophy as a Yankee in 2009. 

‘A-Rod’ once hosted a podcast titled, ‘The Corp’. He hosted the show in alliance with his co-host, Big Cat, from the Barstool Sports network. Many accomplished personalities from various fields graced the podcast. On one occasion, the guest happened to be NBA legend, Kevin Durant. 

Alex Rodriguez: Nearly stepping into a different sport 

If fate would have moved in a different direction, Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez might never have been a world-renowned baseball player. ‘A-Rod’ and his co-host had a long discussion with Kevin Durant on the podcast interview. They discussed various topics ranging from Durant’s professional space to personal life. In-between, ‘A-Rod’ kept filling up instances from my own life too. 

At one point, ‘A-Rod’ made a shocking revelation about his sporting ventures. He acknowledged his strong fondness for basketball. In fact, he loved basketball to the extent that he once quit baseball as a 12-year-old. However, a change of mind under the proper guidance of his mother did bring ‘A-Rod’ back to the diamond.

Speaking to Durant on the podcast, ‘A-Rod’ said, “I wanted to be an NBA player so bad. When I was 12 years old, I quit baseball. And thank God for my mother. She had two jobs. So she had the wits about her to realize that there’s not too many Dominican players in NBA. Right?”

‘A-Rod’ continued saying, “And Felipe made a good one and my boy Horford, too. Horford can play. But I then shifted back to baseball. When you think about, I grew up watching Larry Bird versus Magic. You know, Isaiah versus Michael.” 

Alex Rodriguez’s ties with the NBA 

‘A-Rod’ couldn’t turn into a professional basketball player like he wished to. Nonetheless, post-retirement from baseball, he did make his passion for basketball clearly seen. He joined the ownership group of the NBA team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and is a franchise co-owner. He can also often get noticed attending basketball games.
