Derek Jeter shared his business wisdom after being named a board member at Rockefeller Capital Management

Derek Jeter is more than just a baseball player. Since retiring in 2014, he has shown a flair for business and investing. This resulted in Jeter being given a position on the board at Rockefeller Capital Management in 2021. At the time, they were managing $75 million in client assets, which has grown to a reported $90 billion as of June 2022. While accepting the position, Jeter opened up and shared his thoughts on what makes a business successful.

According to Forbes, Jeter said, “I have found that a business and its culture thrive when people with diverse ideas and opinions work in a collaborative environment where they can freely share what they think. That is the environment I have experienced in my association with Rockefeller.”

This position at Rockefeller Capital Management is a huge achievement for the former Yankee shortstop. He went from being a rookie from a small town to a multi-millionaire working at a corporation that manages billions. Early in his career, Jeter was left bemused by a salesman who didn’t recognize him. That is because even then Jeter was not one to show off his riches. 

Jeter has always been a humble man

Even today, Derek Jeter is a humble man. The Yankee star never flaunted his riches, as most stars did. In fact, Jeter believed that if you have more, you give back more. A belief that his parents instilled in him from a young age.
