Years down the line, Mariah admitted that she wrote the two songs as a memory of her “fling” with the Yankee captain. “The Roof” that re-released today, symbolizes Jeter and Carey’s first kiss that took place on the 14-time All-Star’s roof.

The next song, “My All” was about the time when Mariah risked it all to meet Derek Jeter in Puerto Rico. The singer-shortstop relationship concluded with Carey divorcing her then-husband, Tommy Mottola, in 1998.

This sentiment particularly grew after The Captain released earlier this year. The mini docu-series shed a direct spotlight on Hannah’s struggles of constantly being in the public eye.
