During Friday night’s Yankees-Red Sox matchup, a Yankees rookie clutched his elbow as he took an 88.8 mph changeup from the Red Sox pitcher Walker Buehler with the bases loaded. Buehler’s pitch clipped him straight on his elbow in the second inning. The bases were loaded, and the shortstop was hit by a pitch that was brutal enough that he winced in pain. While it gave the Yankees a 7-0 lead, it certainly wasn’t the easiest way to earn an RBI.
Well, we’re talking about the young Yankees’ star Anthony Volpe who happens to be the first Yankee rookie to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in the same season. After he suffered the blow, he was replaced by Oswald Peraza at the start of the fourth inning.
Apparently, the 24-year-old came out of the game with his elbow visibly swollen. It was concerning for Boone and the team, who could not afford another injury. Thankfully, his X-ray report came out negative. Volpe later went for a CT scan at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and that was all clear as well.

Post game, manager Aaron Boone brought some much-needed clarity in the press-conference. The fans breathed a sigh of relief when he stated, “Good news, negative on the X-rays and CT scan.” Further, when asked about Volpe’s current condition, Boone added, “So, he’s back in there. You know, that one I used to get in the minor leagues a lot… a little stiff and sore, and hopefully nothing that keeps him out for very long.”
And finally, in a media appearance, Volpe himself opened up about the severity of his injury. “Painful and stiff, but yeah, they took me, and they got it all checked out. Knowing that it’s structurally sound… just got to get the swelling out,” he said.
Volpe is a player who has firmly built his value on consistency and toughness. His scans confirm the best-case scenario for the Yankees, and as it seems, he will not be making a stint on the IL, which seemed to be a possibility earlier.
Nonetheless, the Yankees very well dominated their longtime rival—the Red Sox. Again.

The onslaught early in the game helped them with all the momentum they needed to hold onto their lead and eventually dominate the Red Sox in front of a packed crowd of 46,783.
Leading the change was Jazz Chisholm Jr, picking up right where he left off after his much-awaited return from the injured list on Tuesday. He went 3-for-5 that night as he swiped two bases and delivered a three-run homer during the first inning that set the tone early in the game.
Of course, Yankees’ captain Aaron Judge added another impressive game. He notched three hits and spiked his season average to a jaw-dropping .397. Despite exiting the game in the bottom of the fourth, Anthony Volpe also added a home run. And so did Paul Goldschmidt. He helped the Yankees stay in the lead and kept the Red Sox on their heels.
