The New York Yankees went up against their divisional rivals today, the Toronto Blue Jays, with Aaron Judge back in right field for the first time since July 25, when he injured his flexor tendon. However, this time it was way different—not only was his throw not up to the mark, but what followed in the post-game interview ignited the bleacher creatures. Credits? Aaron Boone’s answers!

The key moment came in the first inning when Judge fielded a single cleanly and got the ball before Danny Varsho touched third base. However, he didn’t try to throw it home, which allowed another run to score. Judge made routine flyouts all night long when there were no runners on base. After Daulton Varsho’s RBI double in the ninth inning, he threw carefully to Jazz Chisholm Jr. The fifth inning was the most revealing. Bo Bichette’s pop-up landed in front of Judge for a single, and Chisholm left. It became pretty evident: #99 wasn’t quite himself yet.
This performance led to one of the most awkward conversations after the game. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic posted his exchange with Aaron Boone on X. The back-and-forth instantly went viral. Kirschner shared, “My full exchange with Boone about Judge not making the throw home in the first inning: In the first inning, on the Lukes’ single, Judge got the ball before Varsho touched third base. Is he not able to make that throw? What happened there? ‘He just got to it and he scored.’ So, is he not able to make that throw? ‘He’s in position to make the throw.’ So, why didn’t he? ‘We’re handling it how we handle it, OK?'”

And from that moment, the comment section has become a mixed bag of opinions. To some, it was a management ignoring a valid question. And they let their feeling out with no hesitation.

Meanwhile, Aaron Judge took the responsibility for those throws. He said, “That’s just on me. I’ve got to take control there. Jazz does such a good job of going back on balls like that. I assumed, and you can’t assume in that situation. As the outfielder, you’ve got to take control.”
Aaron Boone’s handling of this situation was simply the latest in a long line of bad management choices that have the Yankees fans going crazy. His judgment calls are being looked at more closely than ever before. For example, he keeps putting Anthony Volpe in the game even though he keeps making mistakes on defence, and Devin Williams’ pitching decisions have lost the team important games. His confrontational and evasive approach to the media makes things worse.

The fan are furious with Boone’s gaslighting
The fans didn’t shy away from giving their responses on how Aaron Boone responded, and the frustration was beyond the answer. Interestingly, the fans were thankful too for Kirschner to keep asking questions to Boone. A comment read, “Thanks for the push back, Chris. Playing Judge tonight gave the rest of the league all the intel they needed pertaining to Judge’s right arm health. Boone can’t cover up what we all saw.” It’s simple; you might not answer with clarity, but the performance on the field can’t be hidden away. Judge’s throwing struggles were visible.

Another response went even further. “The entire organization is a clown show. Aaron Boone is pure embarrassment on a daily basis.” The Yankees’ 2025 season has been a rollercoaster, with missed chances and inconsistent play. On Thursday, they lost to the Blue Jays 1–7, which showed their struggles. Fans were angry about another one-sided loss in a key divisional game because Toronto’s bats came alive while the Yankees‘ offense stagnated.
Another reply had a sense of inevitability: “HE NEEDS THE TJS LIKE WE ALL KNEW MONTHS AGO I’M GOING CRAZY.” This highlights the larger medical concerns surrounding Judge. Captain America might say his arm is 100% okay and he “wouldn’t be out here if I wasn’t.” But problems with the flexor tendons don’t go away overnight, and fans are aware of it.
Then comes the classic sarcasm! “Oh look! Buffoonie is gaslighting the media again! What else is new???” Well, it’s not the first time Aaron Boone has answered like that. Earlier this season, he got a lot of flak in 2025 after a dramatic interview on Talkin’ Yanks, where he fought back against criticism from the media about how hard the Yankees were working and how emotional they were. Boone called the worries “leading questions,” praised how calm his guys were, and told reporters straight out, “I don’t care what you want.”

Some fans kept it straightforward: “If he can’t throw, don’t put him in the field.” Simple, cover the arm and protect the bat. That bat has the best OPS in the AL at 1.103, the most home runs (43), and the most RBIs (97). Tbh, it makes sense to give some time to his arm in order to avoid such blunders.
The Yankees should have been pleased when Aaron Judge came back to right field, but instead, it opened a Pandora’s box. The night left more questions than answers, from his shaky throws to Boone’s vague responses. Can this be resolved with the playoffs coming? Or are there more vague answers loading?
