It has been almost a month since the New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr. got sidelined due to an injury. The Yankees must be in a situation where they would be thinking about getting him back as early as possible. But nothing can be said until he plays the rehab game the next day. However, things look a bit positive now with manager Aaron Boone delivering a positive take on Chisholm Jr. Any guesses what he said?

The New York Yankees are currently standing atop the American League East with a 35-20 record. With their second baseman, Jazz Chisholm Jr., yet to make a full recovery, manager Aaron Boone remains optimistic about the roster and game plan. Now, as the month of May is about to end, it looks like the relaxation time for Chisholm Jr. might just be over, isn’t it?

Perhaps in a new position, as reported by Yankees beat writer Greg Joyce. “Jazz Chisholm Jr. will play 3B in his rehab game tomorrow, per Boone.” Now, Aaron Boone, when asked during an interview with YES Network about Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing third, said, “He’s been awesome. He came in last week and he was just like, ‘Where do you want me this week?’ You know, as he puts it, he just wants to win. He just wants a ring.”

Well, it’s his focus, and that will, perhaps, test his patience, grit, and dedication in his recovery. Jazz Chisholm Jr. played in the outfield and at second base last year. But there was nothing to praise. A mere .181 batting average in his 105 at-bat appearances with a .714 OPS is never going to be enough for a player of his caliber.

I want him to work over there this week; keep that flexibility and we’ll make a decision one way or the other,” Aaron Boone further said, giving a hint that he will probably play the third base. In case that happens, the main focus would be to accommodate DJ LeMahieu, who went 7-for-34 with a .206 average, one home run, and three RBIs across the eleven games he played.

Although it’s official that he will return, the question is, when can he return? However, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not much of a fan of the rehab assignment, given the bitter taste he had earlier when playing for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp in 2023.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Jazz Chisholm Jr. finally live up to the hype and lead the Yankees to glory?

Have an interesting take?

Jazz Chisholm Jr. isn’t much willing to be a part of the rehab assignment

While we all are eyeing Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s return to major-league action, his lack of interest in participating in the rehab assignments have caught the attention of few. Although there’s no second thought that Chisholm Jr. will do good for the Yankees, manager Aaron Boone does not want to take a risk. And it’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?

Just around a couple of weeks back, their third baseman, Oswaldo Cabrera, suffered an injury with a fractured ankle. With him undergoing surgery on his ankle, the club cannot see any likely chances of his return soon. Now with a major gap at third base, the Yankees probably won’t like to risk another infielder, right?

The Yankees would like to keep him flexible enough to switch between positions. But as of now, he is practicing with the Double-A Somerset Patriots and will likely play third base. He will likely be continuing there till the end of the week and hopefully be ready by the next week, as stated by Aaron Boone.

Meanwhile, once Chisholm Jr. makes a comeback to the lineup, the New York Yankees’ number 19 prospect, Jorbit Vivas, might get demoted. And guess what, he hasn’t been too good either—only a home run, .154 average and four RBIs since his promotion to the major league. So now, the Yankees’ fans would like to keep their fingers crossed and expect some good news in the upcoming weeks.
