LoanDepot Park was a witness to some extraordinary play yesterday. The visiting New York Yankees put on an excellent offensive display, beating the Miami Marlins 9-4. After a lackluster most of the season, the return of Aaron Judge has lifted hopes. Although his unexpected toe injury sustained at Dodger Stadium derailed the club back in June, as expected, the captain was the star of the show yesterday.

Rookie Anthony Volpe and teammates Oswaldo Cabrera, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Gleyber Torres were aiding the Yankees captain along. Although Judge’s injury has not fully healed yet, he’s still putting on a spectacular display, leading fans labeling him a superhuman.

Aaron Judge Blasts Miami’s Longest HR of the Season on a Bad Foot

Anthony Volpe was crucial in giving his team an early lead right in the second inning. He blasted a three-run home run against the Marlins’ Jesús Luzardo. But the true gem came in the next inning.

In the third inning, Judge smashed a 464 feet homer into dead center field. Sure, it may have only counted for a single run, but the facts attached to it made it spectacular.

Aside from the fact that Judge smashed it on an injured toe, it was the longest HR seen in Miami this year. It was also Judge’s personal best of the season, making it the second in the last three games.

Is it any wonder fans hail him as baseball Superman? The night honored the Marlins’ 2003 World Series championship team, but the Yankees were the winners.

Even Volpe was impressed, who told MLB.com,“That’s a different type of home run, that’s for sure. It’s so easy when it just jumps off the bat like everyone knows. It’s fun to watch.”

And indeed, the best of baseball comes forward when it’s genuinely exciting to see a player take the field. It’s surprising how much the presence of a single player makes for a stark contrast.

New York Yankees Are a Different Team With/ Without Their Captain

The reigning AL MVP is showing peeks of his 2022 season, although it’s unlikely he will catch up to it in 2023. After his prolonged absence, fans were pinning their hopes on his return so the captain could whip his team into shape. While no miracles have occurred, there is a difference with Judge on the field.

Talkin’ Yanks’ Katie Sharp noted, “Yankees are 17-1 in games when Aaron Judge hits a home run this season.” But the captain is, as usual, nonchalant about it. “Any time we can add more runs, they feel great,” he told Bryan Hoch.

Unfair as it may be to laud an individual as the savior when baseball is a team sport, the same unfortunately holds true for Judge and the Yankees. The team is unlikely to pull too far up in the AL East, but there is still hope for the Wild Card.
