Aaron Judge has enjoyed a dream campaign throughout this season. Amidst a home run frenzy, he has broken all previously long-standing American League records. His team is participating in the postseason round. Moreover, Judge’s mission is far from over.

But it wasn’t the first time that Maris’ record got broken. Multiple times in the past, batters have gone beyond Maris’ record, though all being National League players.

Aaron Judge smashed his historic home run in the last game of the regular season against the Texas Rangers. Despite having accomplished a new league record, he is still far from the ultimate milestone. Roger Maris set the MLB seasonal home run record with 61 homers in the American League in 1961.

But the overall seasonal home run record is still being held by Barry Bonds. In 2001, Bonds smashed his way to a massive seasonal home run tally of 73 homers. Judge is still miles away from Bonds’ record. But the record is neither untouchable nor unbreakable.
