The Yankee Nation almost got the complete New York Yankees show last night. There were home runs, Aaron Boone got ejected, and the Bronx Bombers were once again on the verge of making a ridiculous comeback. All bases were loaded, and the captain, Aaron Judge was on the plate; everything was set up perfectly. Then Judge got a hit and the ball went in the air but it fell short of the wall. That ended the Yankees’ chance of staging a comeback. But it also extended an unwanted record for All Rise.

Though All Rise has almost always started the season slowly, his bat has gone extra quiet this year. Judge has continuously flattered to deceive. Every good day gets followed with more of the same. Perhaps that’s why fans have begun to worry about their superstar’s physical health. “Is he battling an injury? Or is this just a phase?” are the questions on everyone’s mind.

Aaron Judge’s bad form raises worries

2024 hasn’t been kind to Aaron Judge till now. He missed part of Spring Training due to abdominal issues. The MRI came in clean and he was back on the field in no time. However, his Spring Training wasn’t anything noteworthy and the regular season is continuing on that trend. In the recent game against the Miami Marlins, Judge went 0-for-4 with a flyout to give the Marlins a 5-2 win.

That has extended Judge’s misery. In the superstar’s 45 at-bats this season, he has hit a mere 8 times. That has given him a meager .178 batting average with a .744 OPS. For Judge, this is quite a downfall from last season, when he started with 14 hits in 44 at-bats and had a .314 batting average with 1.017 OPS. That’s a worrying sign for a man who was predicted to be one of the leading candidates for the MVP title.

However, Aaron Boone isn’t worried. Per New York Post the skipper said, “I mean he does have an almost .400 on-base percentage (.367 to be exact). So, I sure would like to struggle like that. It’s a matter of time.” Boone was referring to the 14 walks that Judge has drawn this season.

“I feel like his at-bats have been really good…I’m not too worried about Aaron Judge,” Boone said. But Judge’s bad form has given some good news to the Yankees. It’s that they may not be as dependent on their captain as they were before.

The New York Yankees’ depth proves its worth in 2024

Despite the loss to the Marlins, the New York Yankees’ record currently stands at 10-3. The Bronx Bombers have won 4 consecutive series’ without their captain performing well. That is evidence of a squad that is becoming more accustomed to taking the lead. A situation like this certainly bodes well for the Pinstripes, as it shows genuine growth in their roster.

Unlike last season, when the Yankees crumbled in the absence of Judge, this season the team looks quite balanced. With players like Anthony Volpe, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Alex Verdugo continuing to impress, Judge’s bad form has become more digestible for the team. Still one hopes that All Rise will be back to his best soon – the league needs an in-form Aaron Judge.
