The Tampa Bay Rays are a study in contrast. Despite boasting one of the most impressive records in MLB over the past few years, the Rays have consistently failed to convert their success into footfalls for their stadium. Showing the lowest audiences in MLB, Rays fans have often claimed that their stadium remains too far from the city to deliver the turnout a ball game needs consistently.

The Tropicana Field, the Rays’ current ballpark, has been audience to several critical moments for the franchise. Seeing consistent post-season runs from the franchise and even a few World Series runs, the Rays will undoubtedly leave the field with great memories of the ballpark. But an exit seems imminent, with the franchise now announcing a move away and into a potentially just as iconic venue.

Tampa Bay Rays Announce New Plans For Move

The Tampa Bay Rays seem to be reluctant to drop the dome. Despite planning for a move, the Rays appear to be moving not too far from Tropicana Field to St. Petersburg, Florida. With news rolling in that the Tropicana Field is set to see a change, the alternative that the Rays have come up on while serving a change is not too different from the current set up.

Most fans’ complaints with the Rays current stadium is how far it is from the city, a problem the new stadium will not solve. However, with the $1.2 Billion facility being developed with the 2028 season in mind, the facilities will see an upgrade, a big positive for the Rays.

The officials also expect that the new 30,000 seater stadium will increase attendance at Rays’ home games with the team’s consistent post-season runs.

Tampa Bay Rays’ Performances in MLB

There will be very few who doubt the Rays deserve their latest upgrade. Having comfortably sealed their spot in the 2023 post-season, the team has been one of the mainstays of MLB’s October schedule in the past few years. The Florida franchise has not missed making the post-season for the past five years and even today stands 2nd in the AL East, having comfortably sealed their spot for contention.

While a pennant is still missing to seal the deal, there will be few who can argue that the Rays don’t deserve some serious consideration as contenders for it. For the sake of Rays fans, hope will be rife that they can ensure that they move into the new stadium with a pennant to their name at the very least, and will hope that they can carry it through to fruition.
