The 2023 World Baseball Classic was entertaining, to say the least. With upsets, good play, and surprise breakouts, it provided baseball fans with all the action they needed. The Czech Republic national team became a hot topic with their inspiring story. They were a team filled with a majority of part-time players who made it to the WBC. They especially showed a lot of love to Team Japan and Shohei Ohtani. Most recently, Japanese baseball fans reciprocated that love with kind gestures.

The Czech team has gained a lot of followers and respect for what they achieved at the WBC. But this gesture of love from Japanese fans is on another level altogether. It continued the love and mutual appreciation that started between Team Japan and the Czech Republic.

Japanese baseball fans surprised the Czech Baseball team with letters and gifts

The Czech Republic baseball team surprised fans at the World Baseball Classic in their first appearance. The players won their first WBC game and endeared themselves to the fans. Most recently, the Czech team shared that the Japanese fans have continued to support them after the WBC. They revealed that several fans sent them gifts and letters cheering them on and supporting Czech baseball. The team’s official Twitter account shared the update.

In a Tweet, they said, “The Japanese are the best baseball fans in the world. Not only did we feel a huge amount of support from them during our premiere World Baseball Classic in Tokyo, we thank them so much for that. We also received a lot of gifts and letters after the tournament, which is quite touching these days. A bag of Japanese sweets, made rubber bracelets, thank you letters and the undying desire to help Czech baseball.”

The Czech team and its players showed a lot of respect for their opponents throughout the tournament. Furthermore, they achieved a lot with players who worked other jobs and were not professional players. This includes the Japanese team, whom they were especially excited to play against. But there was one star in particular that a majority of their team wanted to face.

The Czech Republic National team was excited to face Shohei Ohtani

During the WBC, the Czech national team was asked who they were most excited to face. All of their team mentioned Japan and a vast majority named Shohei Ohtani. The two-way sensation was by far the most well-known name that they faced during the tournament. Furthermore, they all respected his skill and commitment to the game. While watching the Czech team play, the Japanese fans also fell in love with them.
