The Boston Red Sox are in dire need of a solid arm, and their phenoms—Alex Bregman and Garrett Crochet seem to be rolling out with their most persuasive recruitment efforts. Ironically, Bregman’s own future in Boston is uncertain as the trade deadline inches closer. Still, on Tuesday, he subtly hinted at who might be the next big arrival in Boston.

Bregman, along with left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet, posed for a picture with Minnesota Twins star pitcher Joe Ryan during the 2025 All-Star game. As soon as he posted it on social media, it had the entire Boston nation wide-eyed.

Just so you know, the Twins fans have been skeptical about the potential idea of trading Ryan away. It makes sense if you see his numbers.

The 29-year-old has recorded a flawless 2.72 ERA with 121 strikeouts across 18 starts. The only way the Twins could really trade him is when they are either out of playoff contention or they get swayed away by an offer. If they eventually decide to ship him off, he will easily become one of the most sought-after arms in the trade market.

Ryan isn’t going to be a free agent until 2028 and is arguably a pitcher that the Twins could use in the long run to build a strong rotation. The Twins are yet to get in talks with the interested teams over his trade, according to Fansided’s Robert Murray.

Well, as it appears, all the contending teams are eyeing a starting pitcher this time. If the Twins do decide to trade Ryan, the Red Sox would perhaps be the first to call dibs. However, how willing are the Twins to trade him?

The Red Sox may be eyeing Joe Ryan, but will the Twins give him up?

For the Red Sox, positioning Joe Ryan behind Garrett Crochet would give the rotation a massive boost. Just this pair alone would fix many gaps in the roster. However, what are the odds of this trade really materializing?

Here’s the thing: Ryan still has a couple of years of team control remaining under arbitration. And, he is a valuable asset for the Minnesota Twins. Even if they consider trading him, they’d expect a big return. And it’s unlikely for the Sox to go along with it.

Plus, Ryan has been on the rise. He just made his MLB All-Star game debut and had a stellar outing. In the highly intense fourth inning, he struck out two batters. Even though NL won eventually after Kyle Schwarber’s three-home-run blast in the swing-off, Ryan’s first All-Star Game appearance managed to stand out.

Trading him away wouldn’t be a smart move for the Twins if they still want to be one of the contending teams. Ryan’s fastball is highly touted for its accuracy. The Twins should ideally hold onto such a promising phenom. Well, with just a fortnight until the trade deadline, we will know more soon!
