Rafael Devers may find himself at the center of positional debates in the Red Sox. Speculations are mounting whether he’ll remain at third base or eventually shift into a more permanent designated hitter role. So, while his future in the field remains uncertain, there’s little doubt about what he’s bringing to the plate.

Amid the noise, Devers is doing exactly what a top-tier DH is expected to do. Anchor the lineup with consistent, dangerous at-bats and deliver the kind of offensive production that keeps the Red Sox offense afloat.

That vintage Devers show was on full display Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium. His two-run homer in the sixth inning off of Royals starter Seth Lugo proved to be the decisive blow in Boston’s 3-1 victory over the Royals. Capping off a scorching weekend at the plate, Rafael Devers went 2-for-3 on the day, wrapping up the three-game series with a remarkable 7-for-12 (.583) showing and six RBIs. Well, that’s a timely surge for both the player and the Red Sox lineup searching for consistency.

Very comfortable,” Alex Cora told reporters when asked if Devers is settled as a DH, per NESN. “I think the strength and conditioning, and the trainers and the hitting group, they’ve done an amazing job supporting him. If you look at the numbers right now, he’s probably the best DH in the American League right now.

If you missed, Devers took a rough start this season. It was a horrifying tale as the 3x All-Star went hitless in the first 19 at-bats. Devers got struck out 15 times in between! But Cora said that it was just about a hit that will come out of Devers’ bat at any point in time.

And Cora’s words came true just at the starting of May, when Devers started accelerating. May saw the carnage of the big guy, amassing .471 with 2 HRs and 12 RBIs. Now, that’s what we call an acceleration!

So now, the question is, would this figure be enough for Devers to stay back as a DH? As per the rumors, the Red Sox are contemplating about relocating Rafael Devers to the first base to replace Triston Casas. While we already know how Devers countered the proposal, his recent stats should make a deal here.

In that case, the Red Sox are on the lookout for new names!

What’s your perspective on:

Should Devers stick to DH, or is a move to first base the Red Sox's best bet?

Have an interesting take?

The Red Sox are counting on a few names

So, Devers is not coming at the first base, leaving the club for an extensive lookout. What is the first fish caught? Romy Gonzalez! The crisis man in from the Red Sox’s own stable coming up to fill the base. But, the drama doesn’t end here. Because reportedly Gonzalez also got into a 10-day injury loss!

So, the next name on the list is Nick Sogard. A slugger from Triple-A Worcester. Yes, it sounds ridiculous that a Triple-A guy is coming to fill the shoes of Casas, but hey, the Red Sox crisis is a ticking time bomb. This year saw Sogard playing in 96 games with a .188 BA. Nothing great, but what makes him a prized asset for the club is his versatility.

Sogard is reportedly an utility man who played in 1B, 2B, 3B, and right field as well. Now that’s what is needed for the Red currently. Anyway, Sogard is surely a stop-gap solution for the club.

But Sogard is not the last name on the Red Sox’s table. They are also roaming in the trading market. The first name that is getting rumoured here is Anthony Rizzo. Yes, the club might be interested with the Yankees’ veteran slugger.

He can be a good option, considering the vast experience he will come with. If the team can get into the postseason scenario, Rizzo’s proven skills will come handy. Now it’s all onto the Red Sox about which way they will go. But the decision should be as fast as possible. Time is less here!
