MLB The Show 2023 is here and fans are hyped about the much-talked-about video game. The much-awaited game was released last week and video gamers are already focusing on their favorite players. This year’s game is a little different. It will include a storyline feature about the Negro Leagues of Baseball. And on the cover of the special edition of MLB The Show is none other than Derek Jeter.

The former Yankees captain is finally gracing the cover, something fans have been waiting for a long time. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is on the cover of the regular edition and the duo has been heavily involved in the game’s promotion. They have been doing fun commercials that simultaneously give info about the game. And now Jeter can count his frenemy Alex Rodriguez among his fans.

The former shortstop made an official announcement of the game’s arrival on his Instagram. He shared a promotional picture along with a clip of himself talking about the game. While fans erupted with delight in the comments, the very first person to say something was Jeter’s old teammate, A-Rod. He commented with a string of fire emojis. The Captain’s younger sister Sharlee also shared the post to her Instagram story with the caption, “I love this and can’t wait to watch these with Jalen.” Jalen Jeter is her son and is quite the ballplayer himself!

What did Jeter have to say about the Negro Leagues being added this year?

“It’s impossible for you to know the future unless you know the past,” Jeter says in the promotional clip. He goes on to describe his own experience with some of the players on this year’s video game roster. The former Yankee is half African-American on his dad’s side, so this was an important feature for him.

Bob Kendrick, the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, is narrating the game. In the same clip Jeter shared, he says, “The story of the Negro League is not an African-American story. It’s an all-American story.”
