Between the two, while one shortstop displayed better numbers as a hitter, and a longer list of individual accolades, the other carried the burden of captaincy and won five World Championships.

Moreover, A-Rod’s steroid scandal stained his reputation as a player, which affected his post-retirement honors. In 2017, the Yankees’ front office made a unanimous and popularly loved decision of adding Derek Jeter’s plaque to Monument Park and retiring his jersey.

Considering A-Rod’s ambiguous response, an assumption was made that he wasn’t invited to Jeter’s jersey retirement ceremony. A-Rod claimed that since it was mother’s day, the shortstop-turned-baseman was out with his mother and completely dodged the question by not giving a straightforward response.

He said, “It was Mother’s Day. I watched the whole (ceremony). I put out a (social media) post. I especially liked seeing (his parents) Dr. (Charles) Jeter and Mrs. (Dorothy) Jeter, (his sister) Sharlee. It was a great day for him, and very well-deserved.”

In a recent interview with Drink Champs, Jeter bluntly answered a question about his relationship with A-Rod. He says that the controversial incident around record-breaking deals and subtle digs were 20 years ago, and he’s completely over it.
