The World Series is a gift that just keeps on giving. The first game between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks was an instant classic. The exciting game ended with a walk-off homer from Adolis Garcia as the Rangers triumphed over the D-backs, taking an early lead. But fortunes reversed in the second game as the Diamondbacks scripted an epic comeback and cruised past the Texas Rangers, owing to a great showing from Merrill Kelly. This gave the Diamondbacks a convincing 9-1 victory and equaled the series at 1-1, with speculations at an all-time high.

The games have been a tough read so far. With such an unpredictable result in Game 2, it is tough to ascertain who’s on top, making the job of making predictions even more difficult. But that’s just the nature of the role; sometimes right, sometimes not so much. Well, something of that nature happened right before the game.

On a pre-match panel discussion at MLB on FOX, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, and David Ortiz were present discussing the game. When asked about their picks, the trio of legends—two former Yankee and their Red Sox counterpart—didn’t hesitate to speculate. But as the match would turn out, only one among them was proven correct.

When asked about their predictions, Captain Clutch predicted the Rangers would win 7-4. Meanwhile, Big Papi also followed suit, as he also picked the Lone Stars to win by a 9-3 margin. On the other hand, A-Rod was the anomaly in choosing to back the Diamondbacks for a 5-4 win. While the D-Backs later went on to win much more easily, it was, in fact, Rodriguez who was the only one to be even remotely correct.

While the first two seemed to hope that Game 2 would go the same way as the first did, it was Alex who saw a silver lining. Giving his reasoning behind such a prediction, he said: “I’m gonna go with the Diamondbacks 5-4 because I’m so impressed with their character, their gut, and their grit, and they’re gonna run like a track meet today”.

While this game might have gone A-rod’s predictions’ way, the jury is still out on who will win the World Series. Earlier in the week, when asked about their picks for the World Series, the trio with a combined nine rings gave their two cents.

While Derek Jeter backed the Rangers to win the series in six games, Alex also went the same way and backed the Rangers to win the series in seven games. The only outlier in this case was David Ortiz, who in turn backed the Diamondbacks to win their second-ever World Series in seven games.
