Derek Jeter concluded his glorious ventures in the ballpark back in 2014, but his social influence is strong as ever. Once a captain of his team, he has thus proven to be a leader on and off the baseball diamond. Even after his retirement, the former Yankee continues to achieve new heights with his charity foundation. And for his act of generosity, he recently earned praise from the legendary Pinstripes manager Joe Torre.

Notably, amidst his playing days, Jeter launched the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996. Since then, the charity organization has awarded over $30 million dollar grants in support of youth development programs. The foundation has completed 26 years of establishment this year. Jeter got joined by hundreds of celebrities, athletes, family, and friends at the 26th Anniversary of the Turn 2 Foundation Dinner.

Former New York Yankees manager applauds Derek Jeter’s leadership abilities 

Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation raised $2 million in funds this year. Along with New York, the charity also benefits kids in Jeter’s native Michigan as well as in Tampa. The charity focuses on signature programs promoting leadership, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles for the youth. Many of those graduates from Jeter’s Leadership Program also got honored at the annual dinner

Jeter famously played his entire MLB career for the New York Yankees. Some of his former Yankees associates also attended the 26th annual dinner. Among those was Jeter’s ex-teammate CC Sabathia and former Yankees manager Joe Torre. While Jeter played together with Sabathia from 2009 to retirement, Torre managed the Yankees from 1996 to 2007. 

Speaking in praise of Jeter at the event, Torre said, “He’s always been a role model. And you know, it doesn’t only happen on the field. But he has shown you that it happens off the field also.”

Jeter’s Turn2 Foundation recently posted a video of the same on their Instagram account, back from the event in October, quoting, “Our 26th Annual Dinner was an incredible celebration of Turn 2’s milestones and work to create positive change! Check out highlights from the event, where we raised $2 million to advance our mission and empower young people to rise above negative influences, lead healthy lifestyles and serve as role models in their communities.”

Derek’s sister Sharlee, the president of the Turn 2 Foundation spoke at the event, saying, “Inspiring youth to rise above negative influences, lead healthy lifestyles, and serve as leaders is at the core of Turn 2’s mission. Each of our programs motivate young people to channel their passion and determination into greatness and recognize the endless possibilities that lie ahead for their future.”
