This summer in the Big Apple feels different…What sets it apart? The heatwaves are hitting hard, and especially for the other side, and all you can hear is two words. Juan Soto. The Subway Series is over, and the final scoreboard is settled. That’s it, right? We also thought that. But the whispers are still floating. People are still in search of an answer to why Soto took that decision. This MLB broadcaster has something on it.

Juan Soto leaving the Yankees for the Mets wasn’t just a move; it changed the baseball scene in the city in a big way. The Yankees, who have a long history of winning championships, offered him a 16-year, $760 million deal. Soto, on the other hand, picked the Mets’ 15-year, $765 million contract, which confused a lot of people. Was it the promise of a little more money that drew them in, or was there more to it? People had always thought of the Mets as the underdogs, but all of a sudden, they had a star player. The Yankees fans couldn’t believe it, and looking at the welcome they gave to him, they haven’t processed it yet.

In the middle of all, an unexpected source revealed something. Michael Kay, the voice of the Yankees, said something shocking: “People in the know say that Juan Soto wanted to be a Yankee. He chose the Yankees. But his family wanted him to be a Met, so he chose the Mets.”  Um, this revelation provided a fresh aspect to the story. Was it really the family pressure, not personal choice?

What Michael Kay said can be true because just a few days back, the former Mets Pitcher David Cone said something very similar to it. Being part of both the Queens and the Bronx, he “wasn’t surprised at all” when Soto chose the Queens. He said, “Because of going back to the Old Timers Day… with the Mets, that I got a chance to meet the ownership. I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Cohen. And I saw first-hand how dynamic they are, how warm they are. Particularly how interested they were to hang out in the clubhouse and meet guys, and how approachable they were.”

Juan Soto, on the other hand, has stayed diplomatic. He told the New York Post that he was delighted with his choice: “I made a decision, and I’m happy that I made it. You look around. We have an unbelievable team. And it’s going to be a good team for a long time.” But his recent performance in the Subway Series reveals a different story. Soto was 1-for-10 with three strikeouts and had trouble getting into a rhythm. The Yankees won the series finale 8-2.

Even though Soto is having a hard time, the Mets are still hopeful. Soto has a lot of promise, and the team thinks he will get back to his best as the season goes on. But the pressure is rising, and the attention is tremendous.

Mets stand firm behind Juan Soto amid Bronx boos

When Juan Soto came back to Yankee Stadium as a member of the Mets, the Bronx fans booed him. This was very different from how much they loved him when he played for the Yankees. Carlos Mendoza, the Mets’ manager, said that Soto didn’t seem to be bothered by the angry greeting. “He knew what was coming,” he said. Mendoza noted that Soto’s calmness under pressure showed how tough and experienced he was in high-stakes situations.

David Stearns, the Mets’ head of baseball operations, agreed with Mendoza and praised Soto for always being ready and staying focused. “He just is the same guy regardless of what the moment is, and he’s very consistent in his preparation.” Stearns’ faith in Soto’s mental strength shows that the team believes their best player can manage the stress of playing baseball in New York.

Clay Holmes, a former Yankees closer and current Mets starter, also said he was sure Soto could handle the pressure. Holmes remarked, “His focus is going to be to put up good at-bats.” “He’s always able to lock it in in those big moments. It’ll be fun to watch him.” Holmes’ observations of Soto’s behavior reveal that the outfielder stays true to himself, no matter what outside constraints he faces.

The Mets are still hopeful about their investment. They think that Soto’s skill and mental tenacity will show through as the season goes on. All the eyes will be stuck on his performance, whether he can make the most out of it. Or the Yankees were the right place for him.
