Just a day earlier, Trout had lunged desperately for first base against the Mariners, only to leave the game clutching his left knee—the same knee that kept him sidelined last year. Following the disappointing loss at the hands of the Tigers, Washington confirmed that the 11-time All-Star has been placed on a 10-day injured list. Fortunately, there was no structural damage to his knee; however, he will still be on the injured list due to a bone bruise.
“He has a bone bruise, so we’re going to put him on the IL. It’s not significant. But he needs rest,” manager Washington said during an interview with MLB.com. Last season, when he sustained the knee injury, he was limited to just 29 games, missing 133. Incidents like this often highlight how fragile an athlete’s career can be.

Whether Trout can return to the mound depends on his ability to rest and recover. But if you ask the Angels manager? He remains optimistic about Trout’s return. Known for his excellent offensive ability and defensive skills, Trout has long been a cornerstone of the franchise.
Yet, somehow, the three-time AL MVP injured himself while rushing towards first base, his left foot hitting the bag. He underwent two surgeries to repair the meniscus tears in his knee. So, it’s clear that the injuries have taken a toll on his health and performance. Trout is batting just .179, with nine home runs and 18 RBIs this season.
And now, the latest injury update from the manager casts a dark shadow over the Angels, who need a quick turnaround. Despite recent losses, Washington hasn’t lost hope and is making changes to the lineup. But will it work?
Angels manager experiments with some major moves
With Mike Trout sidelined again and a string of defeats, frustrations are mounting in the clubhouse. Yet, manager Ron Washington isn’t backing down. Facing a five-game losing streak, he’s blending data with intuitions to help the team adapt to different situations. There’s so much information now in baseball,” he said, pointing out that excessive information can sometimes cause the younger players to doubt their instincts. So, Washington is encouraging players to trust themselves and their instincts rather than solely relying on the data.

He has also come up with some configurations in the lineup to improve their offense. Putting Zach Neto in one game while boosting the impact of players like Trout is an example of experimenting with the players in different positions. These changes could help in the long run and transform the offensive ability of the Angels. But that’s not all!
