In your imagination, you are living in your dream home. Not just any home, but a historic New York apartment, once lived in by MLB legend, Babe Ruth! But then, you were benched at the last second. That’s exactly what happened to gymnastics star turned influencer, Olivia Dunne, and her Pittsburgh Pirates ace boyfriend, Paul Skenes. And spoiler alert – this is not even the most disappointing thing that has happened to them!

In what was supposed to be her first real estate purchase, Livvy was all in. All cash, interior designer on the ready, furniture plans done. This was not simply any other apartment. It was Babe Ruth’s old place at Manhattan’s Upper West Side. And along with a serious Yankee legend history, there’s also some serious money attached to it—$1.59 million. Yet Livvy was ready to swing.

“I didn’t want to bring my college furniture into Babe Ruth’s apartment—that would be criminal,” she joked in her latest social media update. But just as she was about to get the keys, she was denied by the co-op board. Not the plot twist she expected.

“The week that I am supposed to get my keys to a brand-new apartment, I get a call, and the co-op board denied me. So pretty much, the people in the building voted not to have me live there, which is fine,” said Livvy Dunne. Yes, the board of residents in the 52-unit building voted her out—no keys to Ruth’s apartment for the couple. Livvy also clarified that it was not because of the financials; she made a full cash offer. But co-op boards in New York are known to be tough and picky.

Livvy shared that maybe they didn’t want any public figure living there. Or maybe, she joked, “They were Alabama fans, and I went to LSU.” This was supposed to be her first real estate purchase. And upon the rejection, Dunne ranted on TikTok, captioning, “I’m just disappointed that’s all 😭.”

Well, the apartment itself is a beauty—a 3-bed, 2.5-bath splendor where Babe Ruth once lived during his Yankees empire. It even made headlines when it hit the market this year.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Paul Skenes' talent being wasted on the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates?

Have an interesting take?

Now, if anything, this rejection serves as a reminder that in NYC real estate, even the viral fame of someone who just made it to the TIME100 Creator list for 2025 – that’s Livvy for you, plus Skenes’ MLB status won’t get past the co-op board.

But honestly, for the couple, this is not the worst thing right now.

Paul Skenes is a star, but the Pittsburgh Pirates are still a big letdown

Let’s talk about Paul Skenes for a moment. He has been electric this season. A 1.94 ERA, and him mowing down batters like it’s nothing. You would think that with an arm like that, the Pittsburgh Pirates would be running high. Yet, they are just lucky not to be called baseball’s worst team right now. Plus, Skenes is sitting on a 407 record, because the Pirates cannot score runs to save their lives.

But here is the real kicker. The Pirates have tweaked Skenes’ pitching schedule so he can appear in the All-Star Game. GM Ben Cherington admitted it. And on the surface, it is a cool moment. Skenes deserves this kind of spotlight. But if you look closely, this move says a lot more about where the franchise is at mentally.

The Pirates are not winning games and are now not even pretending to chase the postseason. So why push your ace when there is nothing meaningful to play for? That’s the logic, and it is sad. If Pittsburgh were in the playoff race, do you think Skenes would be pulled after six innings or rested to pitch in a showcase game? Probably not. But since October is not in the cards, they might as well let him enjoy the spotlight.

Meanwhile, there are guys like Max Fried or Tarik Skubal who might skip the game because the team is fighting for something real. But that’s not to say it won’t be fun to see Skenes on the big stage next week. And while he may not have landed Babe Ruth’s legendary apartment, maybe a move to New York is still in the cards for him…
