Derek Jeter was famous for many things. A calm leader in the ballparks and a gentleman in the game, Jeter belonged to a middle-class background before he made it big in Major league Baseball. And it was a big deal for the Yankees star to even think of a meet with pop sensation Mariah Jeter.

However, destiny had a different plan for these two, especially for Jeter. It is no secret that Mariah was Jeter’s crush in his younger days. He was such a big fan and admirer of Mariah that he once offered to give a ticket to World Series games to her manager just for a signed photograph.

Back in the late 90s, Derek Jeter was an emerging star in Major League Baseball. But compared to Jeter, Mariah Carey was even a bigger name than Jeter at that time. Since Mariah was his dream girl, just a glimpse of her would have meant the world to Jeter.

In her book “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” the American pop star recalled the time when she got a special request from an unknown young man who was desperate to get a signed photograph of Mariah. Jeter conveyed this message to Mariah via her manager.

“My manager knew Derek really wanted to meet me; He had begged me once to sign a photo for “this kid who’s crazy about you” so he could get World Series tickets—an incident I totally forgot about,” Mariah wrote in her book.

Little did Mariah know the same boy who was desperate to get a signed photo, will also become her man of dreams. Although their relationship did not last long enough, she wrote two songs inspired by the moments spent with Jeter.

“Our encounter also had a genuine air of innocence. It reinforced the many pure ways I wrote about romance in my songs. It was like the movies I idolized. But though it felt that way to me, it turns out Derek hadn’t just walked into a room and into my life,” Mariah added.

Why did Mariah and Jeter break up?

Mariah dated Derek Jeter while being in a marriage with her then-husband, Tommy Mottola. Since she loved Jeter to the eternity, Mariah did not want any problem in Jeter’s life.

Later, after breaking up with Jeter, Mariah also ended her marriage with Mottola. She also admitted that being with Jeter gave her the courage to come out of the ugly marriage.
