The Bronx Bombers need some major arrivals in order to forget the awful end to their 2023. The discourse around the New York Yankees has been that they’re looking to either sign Cody Bellinger or bring in Juan Soto through a trade. However, GM Brian Cashman has said that the team needs two outfielders. Can this mean that there is a possibility of the Yankees going for both Soto and Bellinger at the same time?

As one of the biggest sports teams in the world, the Pinstripes have the necessary means to sign both of these lefties. Getting them both can be a smart strategy, especially due to Soto’s present contract situation. This could also pave the way for many delicious possibilities.

New York Yankees can have a star-studded outfield

There are many reasons why the Yankees need left-handed outfielders. Jasson Dominguez, their breakout outfielder of last season, had to go through a Tommy John surgery. This effectively puts him out of action for half of 2024. Due to his absence, their outfield options are rather limited. Also, the sheer lack of lefties adds to their woes.

This is where Bellinger and Soto come into the picture. The former is just coming off a comeback season, while the latter is one of the best players currently in baseball. Adding either one of them would solve much of the Yankees’ problems. But what if they wanted both of them? According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today this could be a possibility.

“The Yankees and San Francisco Giants are widely viewed as the co-favorites now to sign free-agent center fielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger. The Yankees would love to have Bellinger and Juan Soto roaming their outfield,” Nightengale wrote in an article.

Juan Soto will only be there for a year before his free agency in 2024. By signing Cody Love, the Bronx squad can mitigate the potential loss of Soto next year. They both are Scott Boras’s clients. So they would require a very hefty amount, but the Yankees are one of the few who can do it. Add to it the youthful magic of Dominguez. They might create a strong core. This will enable other moves as well.

The potential flexibility of this Bronx Squad

The Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is already a major target. Coupled with these signings, it would propel this Yankees team into superstardom. Also, Bellinger provides flexibility to the team. When Anthony Rizzo departs, Cody Love can slot right into the first baseman position. Pinstripes would surely enjoy the flexibility that a move like this brings.

So with a real possibility of Soto and Bellinger coming together, could this be the recipe for a World Series?
