If you asked anyone last season about Bo Bichette‘s future, the conversation would be filled with concern. Injuries and a rough 2024 left him playing in just 81 games with a slashline- .225/.277/.322 with just 4 homers and 31 RBIs. With his name swirling in trade rumors, most fans had low expectations. But Bo? He had something different in mind. “The biggest thing is I feel like I have a clear mind. I’m able to go out here every day and try and get better, try to win when we play, so I feel good,” he said ahead of opening day.

Fast forward to today, and that 2025 version of Bichette is a completely different player. He is currently hitting .311, which ranks third in the AL and leads all of Baseball in both hits (181) and doubles (44). His .840 OPS ranks among the tops, and with a wRC+ of 132, he has been 32% better than the average. And that helped the Blue Jays own an 82-61 record and first place in the competitive AL East with a league-leading batting average at (.269) and on-base percentage (.338) in his last season before free agency.
At a time like this, with his free agency looming, Bichette made a heartfelt comment that set fans’ and the front office’s hearts racing.
Hazel Mae posted his words, quoting Bichette on his bond with Vladimir Guerrero Jr: “It’s probably the strongest it’s ever been. We both have struggled, and we both have handled it well from a personal relationship standpoint. I think there’s even more respect now as human beings with how we’ve dealt with adversity, and how we’ve overcome it.” — Hazel Mae (tweet)

Bo Bichette on friendship with Vlad Guerrero Jr: (1/2)

That powerful bond is exactly what fans want to see continue for years to come. And Bichette has shown this bromance with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. already before these latest comments. He said before, “My ultimate goal really is to play with Vladdy (Guerrero Jr.) forever, to win a championship with him and to do that with this organization.”

Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro acknowledged that an in-season extension likely won’t happen, so re-signing Bo will certainly be a priority during winter talks.
Bichette’s most recent heartfelt words have started a chorus of emotional pleas directed at the front office.
Fans are begging not to have their hearts broken again
For many, the feeling is simple and hopeful. “Let Bo and Vladdy be teammates forever #bluejays”. This optimism is fair after the front office’s most recent $500 million commitment to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in April.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Bo and Vladdy become the next legendary duo, or will the front office break our hearts?
Have an interesting take?
But for every hopeful fan, there is another filled with anxiety. “@BlueJays please extend Bo. Please please please.” For these fans, the memory of watching Roy Halladay get traded as his contract expired is still fresh. Or what about the breakup of the Shawn Green and Carlos Delgado duo? So one fan repeated these feelings with more anxiety, “I’m gonna die when this ends up on UnfortunateMLB in the offseason.”
Some fans are practical, and they are admitting that Bichette’s incredible season completely changed their minds. “Wasn’t sure I wanted him extended, but now yes…he’s been consistent year after year if we remove last year. But does he want it?” And this fan’s initial doubt was justified by Bichette’s nightmare 2024, where his .599 OPS was a career-worst. But his 2025 season was a complete turnaround.
Finally, some fans see this as more than just a contract negotiation. He wrote, “They’ve matured together in the Jays organization and they are perhaps the most talented homegrown duo the Jays have ever produced, but the question remains does the head office? Clearly they’ve their own personal private bonds together but are they for management the Jays version of Rose/Morgan, Jeter/Riviera, Koufax/Drysdale, Maris/Mantle, Gehrig/Ruth?”

This comment is brilliant in so many ways, as Vladdy and Bo both came up through the minors together as teenagers and became the faces of the franchise together. And the comparison at the end was the cherry on top with a question: Does the front office see them as the next legendary pair, like Jeter and Rivera?
So, to reach that status, they must win in the postseason, something they have yet to do together.
