Once a loyal player to the Oakland Athletics, Frankie Montas embarked on a new chapter of his baseball journey with the New York Yankees, last season in August. However, his promising start with the team was soon interrupted by an unwelcome visitor – right shoulder inflammation. The setback forced him to sit out for most of January, but little did anyone know that the worst was yet to come.

As the mid-February news broke out, it became clear that Montas would need to undergo arthroscopic surgery, putting a big question mark on his ability to contribute to the team’s success in the 2023 season. And now, according to recent developments, Montas’ surgery was successful, but what is the timeline of his return?

The fate of a sports team often rests on the shoulder of its players, and Frankie Montas was no exception. However, his chance of shouldering the responsibility has been postponed with the necessary procedure to clean up his right labrum. Montas’ surgery went without any hitches and he did not require any additional work on his rotator cuff.

Even so, the road to recovery would not be an easy one. Montas would have to endure weeks of rehab. The first milestone is a 12-week waiting period before he could begin a throwing program.

This gives the team hope that Montas would be back before August! Optimistically, Montas’ journey back to the mound is a success.

How did the fans react to the news?

After the news of his surgery, some fans were pleasantly surprised to learn that the damage wasn’t as bad as they had feared, and are hopeful that his recovery will be a smooth one.

However, other fans have been critical of the timing of the pitcher’s surgery. With Spring Training right around the corner, the start of the season is now in jeopardy, and the Yankees will have to rely on other pitchers to fill the gap.

While it’s easy to criticize in hindsight about the timing not being ideal, the decision to undergo surgery is not one that is taken lightly. But as the days pass by and Montas’ recovery continues, time will tell if he yet again becomes one of the league’s top starters when he returns to the ballpark.
