Standing at the pinnacle of the great American Dream is the well-proclaimed Yankees’ shortstop, Alex Rodriguez. Born to a humble family, his father abandoned A-Rod. To help his mother out, A-Rod left college baseball and entered the minor league drafts. By 2007, A-Rod had already won three American League MVP and Hank Aaron awards. In the same year, via an interview with New York Times, American Business Tycoon Warren Buffett made an audacious prediction about the number of home runs Alex Rodriguez would hit before retiring.

Did Warren Buffett jinx A-Rod’s home run ramble?

Barry Bonds retired from the MLB with 762 home runs. At the end of 2006, A-Rod had smashed 464 home runs. Balanced against that, Warren Buffett made a hard-to-fathom Alex Rodriguez forecast. He said, “He’s the man who’s going to break Bonds’s home run record someday.”

However, in hindsight, the prediction didn’t really seem that bold. A-Rod was 298 home runs short and 30 years old with a good amount of baseball left in him when Buffett made this prediction. While praising A-Rod, Buffett said, “The guy is an impressive player no matter how he got there, but I predict A-Rod breaks it and there will be joy in Mudville when it happens.”
