2023 was a disappointment for the New York Yankees. They underperformed with a lack of star power and injuries playing a big role. This off-season has been crucial and the Bombers have made some good moves. There has been a clamor for more star moves, but the question arises, will it help the team?

The Yankees have traded for Juan Soto and signed Marcus Stroman while adding other complimentary pieces. It has drastically improved the team’s bottom line while pushing them up in terms of overall season projections. But as fans’ expectations for another star linger, would it benefit the Bombers?

Would a Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery deal help or hurt the New York Yankees?

Links between the New York Yankees and top pitchers such as Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery continue despite the Marcus Stroman deal. After the Bombers missed out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Stroman is seemingly a bit of a downgrade. But a deal for one of these star pitchers may not help the team. The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner noted this point recently while sharing thoughts on the Bombers’ off-season.

According to Kirschner, “One thing I keep seeing on X, formerly Twitter, is a lot of disappointment from Yankees fans over the state of the team. Sure, losing out on Yoshinobu Yamamoto was a blow. But we’ve known for a while now that this free-agent class was weak. Giving out a long-term deal to Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery could be one of those contracts that weigh down the roster sooner rather than later.”

Signing Snell or Montgomery may be a big risk, but it could be a risk they need to take. There are doubts if things will go right for the Yankees’ pitching this season and these stars could help. But it looks unlikely that a move to add a star pitcher will develop with the team eyeing bullpen help. Another factor is also playing a role in it.

The Yankees don’t want to pay Snell’s price tag

It is not 100% clear what Jordan Montgomery is demanding this off season, and a return to the Texas Rangers is in the cards. But the New York Yankees do not want to pay Blake Snell’s demands. They offered him $150 million over 6 years reportedly, and the lefty ace is demanding $240 million or more. It will be interesting to see how the Bombers’ off-season develops going forward and what moves they make.
