Good things come to those who wait. Especially if one looks at the current free agency of Blake Snell. Despite being a Cy Young winner last season, Snell has few takers due to his huge asking price. But with Spring Training nearing, the game has shifted to patience. Whoever has it more will win, but this shift could prove to be beneficial for one team in particular – the New York Yankees.

The Yankees’ interest in Snell has seen ups and downs recently. At first, the Bombers offered him a $150 million deal, which showed they were interested. But once that deal was rejected, the Pinstripes were quick to pivot to Marcus Stroman. There has been silence ever since then, but this could be a sign of a coming storm. Slowly, things could be falling in place for the Evil Empire to strike back.

The staring contest is on for Blake Snell

Patience has been the common theme of Blake Snell’s free agency. The ace’s alleged demands of a deal between $240-270 million shivered the suitors. That has led to Snell patiently waiting for a suitor to match his price while teams are waiting for him to lower his expectations. This is where the Yankees enter into the picture.

The Yankees had reportedly offered Snell a 6-year, $150 million deal. While it was far from what Snell expected, it’s the only known offer that the Cy Young winner has gotten till now. Top insider Jon Heyman had once hinted that the Bombers were probably ready to pay a little more but stopped after they heard Snell’s valuation.

However, if no team is willing to match the expectations of Snell, there’s a chance that the ace will lower his price. If does, the Yankees should be the first ones in as FanSided said “Blake Snell makes too much sense.” The Pinstripes will get the opportunity to have both Cy Young winners stabilize its lineup that currently stands on shaky ground.

Scott Boras wants a mega deal for Snell. Could that happen? It could. Especially, as going for Snell could become a necessity when one looks at the current configuration of the Yankees roster.

Do the New York Yankees want to win now?

Aaron Judge is 31, Gerrit Cole is 33, and the Yankees have Juan Soto only for a year. The Pinstripes haven’t been in a World Series since 2009 and, despite a great offseason, have a squad that may not be as good as their AL East rivals the Baltimore Orioles. With a limited window of time remaining for them, there’s a growing discontent among the fans.

Blake Snell could lead to the Yankees gaining control over that discontent. Especially as Snell would represent that the Bombers are aiming for the ultimate prize. After a disastrous 2023, it has become all the more imperative for the Yankees to bounce back. Signing Snell if his price lowers would be their biggest leap yet. Could this be another Boras masterclass?
