It’s possible that Bo Bichette played his final game with the Blue Jays last week. His longtime buddy Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also believes that he’s nearing the end of his run with Toronto. “Obviously, I would love to finish my career playing with him. But it’s free agency. He has got to go do his thing and do what he has to do to go get his money.” It won’t be easy for Vladdy to come to terms with it, but that’s the way things are. However, Shane Bieber’s recent offseason deal with the Blue Jays has fans urging the team all over again to keep Bichette.

Only days after the Blue Jays’ crushing World Series defeat to the Dodgers, veteran pitcher Shane Bieber has made his choice about staying with the team.

Bieber’s contract features a $16 million player option for the 2026 season. Instead of testing free agency, the 30-year-old has opted to stay in Toronto for another year.

He’s set to return to the Blue Jays’ rotation. The rotation is expected to feature Kevin Gausman, José Berríos, and Trey Yesavage. Meanwhile, fellow starters Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer are both headed for free agency.

And if Bichette tests the market too, which is likely to happen, he will be the most coveted shortstop there. His contract value is projected to be nearly $200 million spanning 8 years.

Offensively, Bichette is a standout. A career. A .299 hitter, he consistently comes through at the plate. He’s a contact hitter who perfectly complements the lineup’s power bats. Even with a knee sprain in the World Series, he managed to hobble around and hit a three-run homer in Game 7. That’s true grit, to say the least.

Now, can the Blue Jays afford to keep him? Technically, yes. Recent reports suggest the Blue Jays just got a major financial boost. Rogers Communications is estimated to have earned $100–150 million extra during the playoff run. That kind of money could go a long way toward re-signing star shortstop Bo Bichette.

As star infielder Bo Bichette is headed to free agency, the Blue Jays will likely be one of the top teams vying for him. However, several other clubs are expected to show interest as well. And Blue Jays fans aren’t ready to let him slip away that easily.

Fans push for Blue Jays to lock in Bo Bichette

As soon as the Blue Jays were able to lock in Shane Bieber, fans couldn’t help but urge the team to do so for Bo Bichette, as well. “LETS GOOOOOOO!!! Now lock in Bo Bichette long-term!”

Another fan quipped, “1 down, 1 to go, see you soon, Bo Bichette.” At just 27, Bo Bichette has been one of Toronto’s most reliable bats. He has posted a career slash line of .294/.337/.469 with 111 home runs and 60 stolen bases over seven seasons. This year was even better. He had hit .311 with an .840 OPS. It’s no surprise fans are still hoping for a miracle to keep him in blue.

“Bo Bichette you are next 🫵🏼,” another fan noted. Will the Blue Jays move to lock in Bo Bichette after signing Bieber? The Jays’ impressive regular season drew packed stadiums and energized fans across the country, especially in September when they clinched a playoff spot. Reports suggest the team could see an extra $100–150 million in revenue from the surge.

The front office could use it to retain Bichette if they wish to. “Time to run it back, LFG @BlueJays next up Bichette.” Another fan noted. The Blue Jays and their fans are on edge. Bichette has said all the right things—“I want to be here”—but in baseball, business comes first. Ultimately, it’s about who’s willing to pay him the most.

“OH GOD BO BICHETTE WILL BE STAYING A BLUE JAY.” The longer the Jays wait to make an offer, the tougher it will be to keep Bo Bichette. As of now, the Yankees are seriously eyeing him, given how Anthony Volpe struggled at shortstop throughout the season. If the Blue Jays plan to keep him, they have to do it before it’s too late.
