After the Jays won Game 7 over the Mariners, the Jays took their celebration beyond the field and in the hockey world. The team’s social media sent a message to a Canadian hockey star. The star had currently worn a Mariners jersey as a pregame promotional part.

Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright is from Burlington, Ontario and spotted the colors of the Mariners before the Kraken game against the Canadian team, highlighting his support for the baseball team of Seattle during the Mariners’ ALCS run. Such a gesture was done as a good spirit; however, given Weight’s Canadian citizenship, it drew some vital attention.

After the Jays secured their place at the World Series after defeating the Mariners, the team’s Twitter account posted,  “To Kraken Forward Shane Wright, Between us, we know how much it hurt you to put that jersey on. Consider this an open invitation to throw the First Pitch at a game next season. Love, YOUR Toronto Blue Jays.”

It can hurt the sentiment of some Mariners fans, however, it was a mix of sportsmanship and humor and a nod to the star’s loyalty to his country without downplaying the Mariners’ classy gesture. The Jays’ offer became viral as the Jays fans praised the viral exchange for its good-natured tone after a vital playoff battle.

When asked about the hockey star’s divided feelings earlier in the series, the hockey star said that he was “pretty torn” between the Jays and the Mariners and called it a “win-win” situation for him. Kraken captain Jordan Eberle highlighted the same narrative and said that he wanted to see “both cities succeed.” However, now that the Jays have extended an olive branch, there could be a little friendly bragging rights, too.

While the Jays’ lighthearted jab at the hockey star entertained the fans, the team had to provide some intricate news ahead of their most vital day.

Jays confirmed some vital news: their star pitcher, José Berríos, will miss the World Series because of his elbow injury. John Schneider highlighted the update on Monday and ended the José Berríos season after weeks of speculation related to his recovery timeline.

It is a rough blow for the team’s pitching depth, specifically, given his reputation as an elite star and Berríos’ seven-year and 131 million US dollars deal. The two-time All-Star had gone through inconsistency throughout the season before entering the injured list, and the star’s absence now pushes the team to lean more on other veterans like Chris Bassitt and Kevin Gausman.

The manager praised Berríos for “doing everything he could to come back,” however, he said that the staff could not risk more injury. With some millions of US dollars still owed over the upcoming two seasons, the team is banking on Berríos’ full recovery for 2026.
