Bo Bichette was staring down a possible heartbreak even before the ring slipped from their hands– departing Toronto. Being a top free agent in a scarce shortstop market, there may be plenty of teams waiting to pounce, but he has left no doubt about where he prefers to stay. The Blue Jays, after all, are the only club he has known since his draft in 2016.

During the course, he grew into one of their most consistent bats, posting a career slash line of .294/.337/.469 with 111 HRs and 60 stolen bases, and making it one difficult departure for both parties. So if the Blue Jays want to consider re-signing him, money might not be a concern.

According to recent reports, the ownership group just received a major financial boost. “It’s estimated Rogers Communications has made at least $100-$150 million in incremental revenue during the Blue Jays’ playoff run. Sounds like that should be put towards the re-sign Bo Bichette fund,” MLB insider Matt LaBelle said.

The Blue Jays have long been financially sound, as reflected in their 2025 payroll ($266M) that ranked fifth in the league. But with the season they have had, a few extra bucks couldn’t hurt to run it back.

Going from last place finish in the AL East in 2024 to the World Series, the Blue Jays saw Canada massively rally behind them. They had a sellout of 44,000-plus ten times this season, while 85,000 of them pulled up to catch the World Series on the Rogers Centre jumbotron when the Dodgers were hosting Game 3-5.

They are watching their merch line sales grow, sponsorships rise by 20% range, and viewership skyrocket– Game 5 drew in 6.4 million on Rogers Sportsnet. It would make sense now for the team to invest in a shortstop who has been efficient on both ends, especially on offense, hitting .311 with an .840 OPS. Additionally, alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Trey Yesavage, Toronto could build on a solid foundation for years to come.

The Athletic projected an upward of $200 million and an 8-year contract for Bichette. And with Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber also hitting free agency, they could use the incremental revenue to retain as much of their core roster as possible.

However, time is ticking because with stats Bichette has, cash-rich teams like the Dodgers and Yankees are also rumored to be in contention. If you remember, at one point, the Jays failed to get Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Roki Sasaki, even though the team was in the race. This time, losing Bichette would hurt more.

According to SNY’s Phillip Martinez, the Yankees are seriously eyeing Bo Bichette. Last regular season, Anthony Volpe’s bat and glove both slipped to their worst. He even led the AL with 19 errors in 2025. So, Aaron Boone is surely looking for an upgrade, and that’s where Bichette fits in.

Offensively, he’s a big step up from Volpe, who’s struggled to produce at the plate since debuting in 2023. Defensively, while Bichette isn’t exactly a Gold Glove himself, his offensive firepower more than makes up for it. And then there’s the Dodgers.

They are replicating the same offseason moves as last year, with racing for all the top names. With players like Mookie Betts in place, why would the Dodgers go for Bichette? Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes the 27-year-old could save Betts wear and tear, who is 33 years old and has seven more seasons left on the contract.

Crucial or not is secondary for the Dodgers, who made a splash by picking up Kirby Yates, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki, despite winning the World Series in 2024. So, expect the Dodgers to extend their talent pool deeper if required. Hence, for the Blue Jays, it’s now-or-never with Bichette.

The Dodgers already took away the World Series, but the Jays could still make a wonder in saving their shortstop.
