Just when you thought the Blue Jays had enough heartbreaks after missing out on the World Series, they’re now staring down a few more. Reportedly, big names like Bo Bichette, Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber are all set to hit free agency. And there couldn’t be a bigger heartbreak for the Jays fans than to see Bichette donning a rival jersey. Why?

Well, at just 27, Bichette has been one of Toronto’s most consistent bats, posting a career slash line of .294/.337/.469 with 111 HRs and 60 stolen bases over seven seasons. Moreover, this year, he was even better, hitting .311 with an .840 OPS. Hence, it’s no wonder fans are still holding out hope for a miracle to keep him in blue.

And maybe, there’s reason to believe. According to recent reports, the Blue Jays organization just received a major financial boost that could make a significant difference in its efforts to retain its star shortstop.

“It’s estimated Rogers Communications has made at least $100-$150 million in incremental revenue during the Blue Jays’ playoff run. Sounds like that should be put towards the re-sign Bo Bichette fund,” MLB insider Matt LaBelle said.

Well, 2025 is one rare season for the Blue Jays in recent times, where they showed equal dominance both in the regular and postseason. And that comes with financial benefits for the ownership. Guess what, the timing couldn’t have been better for Rogers Communications, which owns the team and is leaning heavily into sports as a key part of its business.

The Jays’ strong regular season helped secure packed stadiums and a surge of fan excitement across the country, especially in September, when they clinched their playoff spot. Reportedly, the extra profits could range from $100 to $150 million for the team.

Now the question is, could this amount be used to retain Bichette? The Athletic projected an upward of $200 million and an 8-year contract for Bichette, and with that incremental amount, the Blue Jays could thus go after their shortstop.

However, time is ticking because with stats Bichette has, cash-rich teams like the Dodgers and Yankees are also rumored to be in contention. If you remember, at one point the Jays failed to get Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Roki Sasaki, even though the team was in the race. This time, losing Bichette would hurt more, given how he was the key to the 2025 winning journey.

Bichette is already generating quite a eyeballs

The longer the Jays wait to extend an offer to Bichette, the harder it will be to get him…

According to SNY’s Phillip Martinez, the Yankees are seriously eyeing Bo Bichette. If you remember the last regular season, Anthony Volpe’s bat and glove both slipped to their worst. He even led the AL with 19 errors in 2025. So, Aaron Boone is surely looking for an upgrade, and that’s where Bo Bichette fits in.

Offensively, he’s a big step up from Volpe, who’s struggled to produce at the plate since debuting in 2023. Defensively, while Bichette isn’t exactly a Gold Glove himself, his offensive firepower more than makes up for it. And then there’s the Dodgers.

Well, the Dodgers might not have had enough ruining the baseball. They are replicating the same offseason moves as last year, with racing for all the top names. You might argue that with players like Mookie Betts in place, why would the Dodgers go for Bichette?

Remember last offseason? The Dodgers came into the 2024 season after winning the World Series, but still made a splash by picking up Kirby Yates, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki. So, believe in the Dodgers to extend their talent pool deeper if required. Hence, for the Blue Jays, it’s now-or-never with Bichette.

The Dodgers already took away the World Series, but the Jays could still make a wonder in saving their shortstop. Financially, the team is looking strong as well, getting their hands on…
